Week 13 Assignment - Unseen Places
Okay this week was kinda interesting as I wanted to create something more pretty and appealing to the rest of the class. I think that people enjoy the little creatures I made previously ( at least those that I spent less than 2 hours on.... seems the more time I spend on a project the more noticeably frustrated the work becomes ) . I couldn't find anything around Wurster so I plundered my studio. Seems I have a thing for Octopusses ( that's right....OCTOPUSSES not OCTOPI )....
I wasn't satisfied with the pics from that night so I reassembled it on the balcony in the tower. Tried to give the pics an ethereal feel.

Week 12 Assignment -Overheard Conversations
This sucker was inspired by the rantings of a drunk homeless man I saw on BART. Clutching a bottle of Hypnotique ( BTW good call Katia...very impressive ) and smoking a pack of cigarettes the guy was talking absurdities to himself. So this week focuses on the vices and how they manifest themself.

Week 10 Assignment - Open:
I really don't like this one... so let's just leave it at that!
Week 10 Assignment - Open: Inspiration Pic and Video
Collecting inspiration imagery for project "Open". Acquired some material for tomorrow....not sure what will come of it... want to emphasize a bipedal character for tomorrow.... or something that could have two feet.
Humorous FanDub I found on the downfall of Kodachrome:

Week 9 Assignment - Follow / Rise
Follow / Rise was a complete departure from my usual characters. I actually wanted to make something robotic and techno-phobic but instead I made a creature who is quite the opposite - these characters don't appear to make a comment at all but rather just appear exist in the fabric of the piece. "Sponge Bob" is my favorite but the "Mr. Google-Eyes /SawTooth" stand out the most. "Tape-Ribbon Man" is a complete after thought and quite unsuccessful... though he took the most effort to assemble. I really don't know what this piece means... but as I referred last week it's best I stay away from the message and just paint a persona.

Week 8 Assignment - Hold
Decided to return to the more whimsical characters. As Tony remarked this is perhaps where i should channel most of my energyas the more "message" ridden works tend to be unclear.... "Hold" is a character of convenience and simultaneous a status symbol whose constant evolution creates the need for "upgrades"! This character is as much a sign of fashion as it is a piece of technology. You can not really hold on to this for long - you risk being out of style or a techno - Neanderthal.
Week 6 Assignment - Lead
Lead started out well intentioned but it degraded due to frustration ( heavy midterms week ). The characters are meant to be symbols of technology icons but it turned into something quite disrespectful and vulgar. I wish I could have redone this one.
Week 5 Assignment - Move
Inspired by some Andean religious and sculptural motiff. "Move" is here is interpreted as a mythical creature that sprouts wings and hosts "tenon-heads" which communicate the emotions of the creature and of the environment.
Week 3 Assignment -Reach
This character represents a departure from the more "happier" kiddy works. Seeking to create a more complex piece that embodied the issue of what we are taught we should "want" in/for today's society while ignoring the futility of obtaining them.

Week 2 Assignment - LIFT

Wanted to create an additional character with this assignment....something inline with the "Jauncy Jester" but something that would have it's own character. Not very satisfied with the photos of this one. I have a few ideas of shooting it in various backgrounds.... will update once I have captured them.

Week 1 Assignment - TOUCH
Week One Assignment - TOUCH
First exercise in traditional ( real ) media since my undergrad years. This was more an exploration of "theme" than technique. I feel an attraction to images that evoke childhood imagery but have a dark adult nature. The works of Sam Keith, Michael Gagne, and Yoshitomo Nara are good point of departures but I think migrating from 2D ( flat ) to 3D ( sculptural ) presentation would be cool for Week Two
